When it was first launched on the market in 1971, it broke with the
rules of the growing region. It is thanks to the
and innovative spirit of the estate owner Marchese Piero Antinori and his chief oenologist Giacomo Tachis. They felt that the framework that applied to a Chianti Classico was too narrow and experimented with other grape varieties and cellar techniques. They threw conventions overboard by changing the prescribed blend of grape varieties.
This gave the Chianti red wine a completely new expression.
